Twin Harbors State Park offers a peaceful place to enjoy the amazing Washington Coast. This camping park is nestled behind the dunes a few minutes from the beach just south of Westport. The campground features new camping cabins that have a bunk bed with a twin over a queen, a futon and two tables. Outside, there is a picnic table. It also offers Yurts, tent sites nestled in the trees, and an RV section just east of Highway 105. The cabins, with bed, heaters and electricity, are a perfect option for people who want to enjoy the camping experience without all the work. All you need is your bedding and your sense of adventure.
From the campground, several short trails lead over the dunes to the beach. You can walk along the beach for miles in either direction, or enjoy a path that runs along the crest of the dune ridge that offers several benches where you can stop to enjoy the sunrise.
In March, I had a single night that I could spend on the beach. I wanted a natural experience, camping in a park rather than a hotel in town, but I didn’t want to hassle with all my camping equipment. The cabins at Twin Harbors were a perfect compromise. All I needed was a sleeping bag. The cabin was roomy and comfortable, the facilities were clean, the campground was quiet (almost deserted on a Sunday night), and the beach was perfect to walk along.
The park is just south of Westport. If you want a place to eat, enjoy some ice cream, or take an excursion there are lots of options. I enjoyed climbing the “light house tower,” watching surfers at Wesport Light State Park, and exploring the exhibits at Westport Maritime Museum. If you are looking for a bite before heading back to the campground, I would strongly recommend Blackbeard’s Brewing company, just up the road towards Westport, in addition to beer on tap and pizzas, it has the most amazing giant pretzels.
