Kickstart your Washington adventure with a weekend in Seattle, where urban exploration meets breathtaking waterfront views. The state’s largest city is known for its eclectic mix of culture, cuisine, and outdoor fun.

For a truly unique experience, try one of Seattle’s underground walking tours. Explore beneath the streets, see part of the historic Pioneer Square, and learn how the Gold Rush and 1889 Great Fire reshaped the city.

Alternatively, wander along the waterfront and enjoy the various eateries, shops, and incredible aquatic views. While you’re here, you could also:

  •  Take a ferry for an island-hopping excursion.

  • Enjoy a sunset cruise on Elliot Bay and take in the spectacular skyline views of Seattle as the sun sets behind the mountains.

And if all that adventure has you wanting more, perhaps you should consider hopping aboard an Alaskan cruise sailing from Seattle.

2. Visit Natural Wonders at Mount Rainier and Snoqualmie Falls

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in nature, consider visiting one (or both!) of these iconic destinations:

Mount Rainier National Park is a top destination for adventure seekers. The pristine glacier-fed lakes and abundant wildlife turn every hike into a photography expedition.  Mount Rainier National Park is a short drive from Seattle and is named after its iconic, towering peak, which is the most glaciated in the contiguous United States and boasts the biggest volcanic glacier cave system in the world. The park has something for everyone, from easy walks to challenging climbs for avid hikers.  It’s also home to diverse ecosystems, wildflower meadows, and stunning lakes. During summer, the park bursts into color with blooming wildflowers, while winter is ideal for snow play, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.

Mt Rainier has four entrance gates. In the summer, timed tickets are required to entry the park. Find Mt Rainier and the entrance gates here

Snoqualmie Falls

Another natural landmark is Snoqualmie Falls. This 270-foot waterfall, twice as high as Niagara Falls, was featured in Twin Peaks and grabs attention with its roaring cascade and scenic views.

3. Explore a Rainforest and a Volcanic Beach

Washington’s Olympic Peninsula is a nature-lovers paradise with rugged coastlines, lofty peaks, and temperate rainforests.

The Olympic National Park is home to the Hoh Rainforest, one of the largest temperate rainforests in the US. This captivating ecosystem has moss-draped trees and an abundance of wildlife. You can hike along the Hoh River, shaped by ancient glaciers that give it its distinctive milky slate blue coloring.

Ruby Beach should be next on the list. Loved for its dramatic scenery, the red-colored sand contrasts starkly with the magnificent rock formations known as sea stacks. Indulge in a tranquil escape by lounging on the red-hued beach, or have fun surfing.
