New maps and an end of support for the mobile Apps

Changes are coming to Northwest Portal. We are dropping the Snow NW, Off-Roading NW and Outdoors NW apps for Apple and Android at the end of January, but will continue to offer the same great content through maps you can access on your browser, printable maps and GeoPDFs.  We made the difficult decision to drop the apps so we can focus our efforts on those areas where we can offer something unique. The app space is crowded with numerous products, many using our recreation data, and those apps have features that we are not able to offer.  For users who prefer to use a mobile App, TrakMaps, a Northwest Portal partner, has launched their OHV App for Apple and Android that includes all of our trails data for Washington State, plus 23 other states. TrakMaps also offers snowmobile maps for Garmin that use the Northwest Portal data for Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

Trak Maps OHV uses the Northest Portal data for Washington State.

Northwest Portal continues to offer several ways to access our rich recreation information.

Web map that you can use with any browser

If you want the fully interactive experience, you can use one of our interactive maps in your browser. Each map is designed for the needs of different types of recreation: outdoor recreation, winter recreation, off-roading, dogs and boating/water recreation. These maps are updated regularly with the latest recreation information, including season and emergency closures. Use the filters and pop-ups to find the perfect destination, plot your location and navigate with the GPS on your phone, use the maps on your computer, and easily share the maps (with locations highlighted by filter or name) just by setting up the map the way you want and then copying the URL. If you have suggestions, let us know. Have ideas for other topics, information you would like added to maps, or suggestions for new filters, let us know.

The Snow NW web map uses the same map that you could find on the mobile app.

GeoPDF Map

If you want to be able to navigate off-line or plot and save your route, use one of our GeoPDF maps with any GeoPDF. These GeoPDFs are large format maps (30”x30”, 22”x40” or 40”x22”) specifically designed for navigation. Text sizes and line widths are small allowing lots of information when you zoom in. Northwest Portal currently has a set of 10 GeoPDFs of winter trails covering all of Washington State and Southwest Oregon. These maps are available for $4.99 from Avenza or you can purchase directly from our site, to download the file. We also offer a bundle with all nine Washington State maps for just $19.99.  Northwest Portal is providing a code for $4.99 off the maps purchased from our site (making one map free map) to our supporting clubs and businesses that they can share with their members and customers:  Central Powersports in Ellensburg, Motor Toys Rental and Tours in Cle Elum, Junco Snowmobile Club, The Chelan Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, Cascade Drift Skippers, Sno-Jammers Snowmobile Club, Klamath Basin Sno-Drifters and Chiloquin Ridge Riders. We will be releasing Off-Roading and other summer maps this spring. Use our contact form to let us know what areas you would like to see.

Free promotional print maps

If you would like a map that you can print, we have published a set of promotional letter and 18x24 poster sized maps for every region where we have supporters. Our supporters get printed maps (50 for a club, 100-200 for businesses).  These maps are free to download, and we encourage people to print and share them. Winter maps are currently available for Central Cascades (Kittitas & Yakima County), South West Washington (Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Skamanita County), Lake Chelan, NE Washington (Pend Oreille County & Priest Lake Idaho), SW Oregon (Klamath Basin & Chiloquin Ridge). We will be adding off-roading and summer maps this spring. These maps have the logos and information for our supporting businesses. If you want a map of your area or would like to be on the maps sign up as a club or business supporter.
